Neha has been awarded a selective Young Investigator Program (YIP) Award from the U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR). Check out the write up here.

The $450,000 AFOSR YIP Award over three years will support the Kamat Lab’s basic research initiative to take “A Biophysical Approach to Uncover the Role of Cell Membrane Mechanics in Sensing Mechanical Force.”  The research is important to uncover force sensing mechanisms in cell membranes and to develop protective strategies to limit cellular damage in the presence of mechanical forces.

AFOSR 2019 YIP awarded more than $13.9 million in grants to 31 scientists and engineers from 24 research institutions and small businesses. The program fosters creative basic research in science and engineering and is open to scientists and engineers at research institutions across the United States who received Ph.D. or equivalent degrees in the last five years. This year’s program received more than 290 proposals.
